The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (the sciences of winemaking and grape growing) is a 501 (c)(6), tax exempt professional society dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists, and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production throughout the world. Our membership includes professionals from wineries, vineyards, academic institutions and organizations.

Formed in 1950, and originally composed of researchers from the University of California and California winemakers, the ASEV has held a steady growth over the years. We currently have 2200 members, 100 Industrial Affiliates (companies), and three chapters: an Eastern U.S. Chapter, a Northwest Chapter and the ASEV Japan Chapter.

The ASEV provides many primary services:

  • Annual online subscription (calendar year) to the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture (AJEV), including online access to full AJEV archives from 1950
  • ASEV National Conference, with technical sessions, research forums, symposia and industry seminars annually in June
  • Unified Wine & Grape Symposium, presented by the ASEV and the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) is held annually in January
  • Scholarship program for students studying enology, viticulture or a directly related field offered to eligible students throughout North America

  • ASEV Technical Update
  • Symposia proceedings and other publications in addition to the AJEV
